Spain Stays Top for UK Holidaymakers

Spain has come top of a list of popular holiday destinations in a survey conducted by Abta. The results were revealed at the industry association's convention in Palma de Mallorca with Spain just beating the UK.

Completing the top five was the US, France and Greece. Overall, the results were very encouraging for Mediterranean destinations with Italy, Turkey and Cyprus also performing well and claiming spots in the top ten. 

Loyalty From the British Public

Brits have been returning to the sunshine shores of Spain over the past 12 months as good deals and a desire to escape the erratic British weather have encouraged many to return to a holiday destination perhaps ignored during the recent economic downturn.

The director of the Spanish Tourist Office, Ignacio Vasallo commented on the positive news. He said:

“We continue to support the travel trade to update them on all our new developments in culture, sport and gastronomy. It truly is a pleasure to see so much loyalty from the travel trade and British public.”

Many of the Spanish resorts have seen renovation recently with Malaga a particularly popular spot following major investment. This is complemented by people returning to popular places like Barcelona and the Costas. have a number of cheap flights to Spain available from their eight UK bases.
