Rome Becomes ‘City of Swing’ for Rome Jazz Festival

Some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians are set to descend on the Eternal City for the 39th edition of the city’s Rome Jazz Festival. This year’s eclectic programme features revered Italian icons and international stars of the genre, ensuring there’s something to suit everyone.

After a day of exploring the city, and Jet2CityBreak customers can experience Rome’s thriving jazz scene, which exploded after World War II and has grown since across clubs now considered the best jazz venues in Europe.

During the festival, Rome’s stunning music complex Parco della Musica will host some of the headline acts including Grammy winner Gregory Porter [above] – the new international star of jazz whose latest album Liquid Spirit has been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. Backed by his four-piece band, Porter is sure to entertain on 14th November with his intricate blend of soul, gospel, blues and jazz.

Elsewhere, the hugely talented Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez [above, left] - discovered by Quincy Jones himself at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2006 – takes to the stage on 17th November to fuse modern jazz with influential sounds of the past.

And there’s a real treat for music fans visiting Rome over the weekend of the 21st November, in the form of the New York based pianist Chihiro Yamanake [above, right]. Her native Japan considers her one of the country’s greatest ever musicians and her impressive contemporary style and mindboggling technique is guaranteed to impress.
