On Friday 20th and Saturday 21st May take advantage of cheap flights to Amsterdam, as the city plays host to the weekend when all things cool in UK music collide.

The Bi-annual London Calling Festival (affectionately known as Indiestad by Amsterdammers) takes place in Paradiso, a concert hall-come-nightclub-come cultural centre.

The festival guarantees the opportunity to see one or two indie bands who have ‘made it’ in the last year or so, but perhaps more excitingly, it offers the chance to catch a first glimpse of some who are sure to follow. For those who want a weekend to party in ‘Dam, but prefer rocking riffs to thudding techno beats, there is no better opportunity.

An Eclectic Choice

The city, the venue, and the festival itself, battle it out to create a truly awesome weekend. The venue, Paradiso, offers an eclectic mix of world-class club nights, through to concerts, through to lectures exploring the modern cultural implications of creationism.

‘Varied’ doesn’t begin to describe this 1968 ‘Relaxation Centre’, as it was first known. The festival itself has a focus on the UK and USA music scene, and has proven to be a hotbed of up and coming new talent.

Acts confirmed for this years festival include: The View, Holy Ghost!, Flashguns, Cloud Nothings, Cat’s Eyes and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti. If you consider yourself to be ‘at one’ with the indie music scene, and fancy exploring it in new and exciting surroundings, then this is the only place for you to be in May.
