Ironman Approaches on Lanzarote

Lanzarote, being one of the most popular of the Canary Islands, often attracts throngs of holidaymakers keen to hit the volcanic sand on the many beaches around the island. However, come May, there will be swarm of different visitors keen to enjoy a different side to the island.

At the start of May the annual Ironman event takes place, bringing together some of the most dedicated athletes.

An Event for Everyone 

The reputation of the Lanzarote Ironman is on the increase with numbers attending the event increasing. It takes place in Puerto del Carmen and will see competitors complete a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle ride and a 42.2km run; it’s certainly not one for the faint hearted.


Whilst the athletes will be focused on the challenge, spectators and other visitors will be able to make the most of a party atmosphere when the Ironman event approaches. The locals make quite a spectacle of the event with fun runs available for those not ready for the main event and parties.


The award ceremony at the end brings a lively end to the occasion and gives locals and visitors the chance to mingle whilst enjoying some local cuisine and beverages.
