Fowler Welch has almost doubled its fleet of moving floor double-deck trailers, as part of its ongoing commitment to reduce food miles and CO2 emissions.

The purchase of eight new trailers will increase the fleet to 18 and allow Fowler Welch to cope with the increased demand of national and regional deliveries, while reducing the number of deliveries needed per site.

Nick Hay, CEO of Fowler Welch, said: “The purchase of these new trailers will enable us to significantly reduce food miles and further improve our service to customers.

“Fowler Welch is always striving to listen and respond to its customers and the increased capacity of the new trailers will enable us to support more deliveries across the business.”

Working closely with its regional partnerships, Fowler Welch has been able to reduce its lead time for wholesale and independent deliveries, offering day one for day two services across many locations. These partnerships have enabled a lower cost distribution model, targeting high cost pallet networks for short lead time suppliers.

The new trailers, which have been built by The Cartwright Group, have a capacity of 44 pallets, with 36 at 1.8 meters and eight at 3.1 meters.
